Kotai Jingu (Ise Jingu Naiku, Inner Sanctuary) 皇大神宮（伊勢神宮 内宮）

A very obvious rec for my Mie collection, but Ise Grand Shrine is considered to be one of the most (if not the most) sacred shrine in Japan. This is because the inner shrine (内宮, Naiku) enshrines Amaterasu Omikami or the sun goddess who is considered the ancestor of the imperial family and, in Shinto cosmology, the highest of all the kami (gods).

Now, visually, it might not have the type of ~grandeur~ that you'd expect from one of Japan's most important shrines, but to quote my friend Chris, "The way we prayed to the idea of a shrine/holy presence at Ise Jingu is similar energy as hello kitty doesn’t have a mouth bc she talks with her heart."
